In truth, armed resistance was rife across much of occupied Europe. If the Jews had actually known just what was coming (and I don’t think anybody really foresaw the sheer horror that was being prepared) you can bet that many of them would have been trying either get guns if they could not get out. You notice that by 1948, armed Jewish resistance in British Palestine was deeply entrenched.

True, but by 1948, it was preventing a repeat. Jews went along with the gun bans and so forth because they really didn’t foresee what was coming. In their minds, it was just a matter of time until the next elections, when the Nazis could be voted out of power.
