I am starting to respect Grant beyond his generalship more that I learn. I eman I know his presidency did have corruption problems but I have to give him credit for taking on the KKK and taking enforcing African-Americans rights seriously.

I have understood that much of his “failed President” legacy stemmed from largely Southern historians who had an axe to grind against him in the early and mid 20th Century and that an re-appraisal has been in the offing.
