Treason, no, but it’s apparently a serious breach of chain of command. It may have the right outcome, but I’m not so sure I’m on board with “the end justifies the means”.

I don’t entirely disagree with you (and I even think a technical argument for treason is possible), but I can’t help remembering the several times during the Cold War when we avoided nuclear armageddon because lower-level Soviet officers refused to follow procedure or submit to coercion from more senior officers.
