the malleability of gold is amazing to me. I’ve worked a bit with gold leaf and it seems almost not to be there at all, but is sooo beautiful. Of course, I think it the best form of jewelry. :)

Malleability is probably one major reason for its prominence in value, aside from rarity, but to be honest I think decoratively speaking silver is more attractive overall. Gold doesn’t match as well. For example, I bought my wife a very nice 18k necklace years ago weighing about 80 grams, when the price was less than a third of what it is today, but it doesn’t go with anything else she likes. Gold and silver don’t mesh.
