Heh. That kind of stuff is why I’m always surprised that people fuck with those motorcades. The Libs used to try to arrest Cheney for war crimes. Even that guy who threw the shoe at Bush came within nano-seconds of being very dead. People think they’re playing games and seem to forget what serious danger they’re in.

Clinton was a total ass when it came to security. During his reelection campaign, he flew into Detroit - twice - at the height of rush hour to give a short speech downtown. AF1 landed at Metro Airport, and the Secret Service closed all of Interstate 94 from the airport to to the stage - a major traffic artery through the city, shut down in both directions over a thirty mile length or more. He did the same things during the following midterms. All on the spur of the moment - word of the closings wasn’t released until a half-hour before traffic started being rerouted, and rush hour was already beginning to get underway.

On other occasions, when there was more advance notice of his visits was given, he demanded that every manhole cover on his route be tack-welded shut. He then changed the route at the last minute, making the same demand for the new route. I’m pretty sure the DPW still has to break welds when accessing come of those egresses.
