Well, exactly. It goes well beyond Catholicism. Conservatives have this big philosophical hard-on for objectivism* and things really meaning specific things, but that all goes out the window as soon as someone comes along with facts they don’t like.

* Witness regular right-wing deployment of, e.g., “post-modern gobbledegook” and/or “typical subjectivist blather”. Also whining that “in the old days, words used to mean something”.
