Even a generation ago, yes. However, certain social-conservative Catholics have managed to position themselves, by shifting their focus from social justice to the social conservative craziness, as acceptable alternatives. Poster boy is Santorum, of course. For whatever reason, Mormons still don’t count.

I wonder if they might, if they started doing the obsessive social purity talk. Or not. This is all a bit complicated.
