Let’s see. The Israelis said it. Then, US officials issued cautious announcements that Assad might have used chemical weapons. The UK followed suit. The UN said that they see that someone used them, but initially fingered the rebels before retracting that claim. Then the Turkish government said that Assad used them and urged action (though denouncing the Israeli airstrikes against targets inside Syria that may have included missile systems being transferred to Hizbullah). Now, we’re back to US officials saying that it’s happened.

It’s looking more and more likely that Assad has used them in selected circumstances, hoping to avoid international intervention by avoiding widespread usage, but the weight of evidence is piling up that his regime is using them (though his country hasn’t signed the Chemical Weapons Convention).
