The “Islamic State” does not have some territorial grievance we can rectify; Its grievance is that the United States exists. It murders men after they surrender as a matter of routine, rapes women and forces them to convert to Salafism, it loots towns bare and then rigs them with explosives. Such an organization cannot be reasoned with, it must be eliminated by main force.
