Plus who pays for it. Airlines don’t want to - it takes up weight and maintenance time and reduces their profit margins further. So it would be a federal subsidy, further passenger fees, or something like that. And that’s assuming you find a worthwhile defense system that can handle a SAM system designed to shoot down cruise missiles and military attack aircraft.

So it boils down to emotional blathering in the heat of the moment.

Point defense lasers. Who cares how expensive or what collateral damage they could do, just imagine a 787 with frickin’ lasers on it!
