It’s not complicated. The Constitution gives Congress the power to put anyone it chooses in charge of the census. Under current law, the Census Bureau falls under the Commerce Department.

If Congres wants to pass a law putting the White House chief of staff in charge of the Census bureau, it’s free to do so. The issue is with the White House unilaterally taking control of it.

Ok, then what I found out was correct. The constitution does not prevent the census from being run by whoever they decide.

So, if Congress says OK, Obama’s staff, or some part of it COULD run the census.

That’s what I thought.
