It’s possible to be “intelligent” and still be an idiot. By some accounts Cruz is “intelligent,” but he still mouthed off about Galileo while obviously knowing nothing about him. That’s the mark of an intelligent idiot.

I’d say “ignorant” rather than “idiot,” but yeah, we’ve heard enough pearls of wisdom from Ben Carson in recent years to know that book smarts do not translate to common knowledge. Else one would have a hard time explaining how a brain surgeon can not know that Israel has a parliamentary government.
