Oh. Now I’m seeing a bunch of Blacks on Twitter are not cool with Rachel.

The thing is, she didn’t just say she was black. she lied about a lot of stuff. She created an entire fictional persona, including claims that she was born in a tipi, hunted animals for food with a bow and arrow, etc. etc. She hasn’t just identified as black, she’s supported it with a ton of lies.

I’m always fascinated by people who do this. It used to be a lot easier—back before we had records that followed us around, people could abandon their old identities, move somewhere else, and claim a new history. I think that this is one of the reasons why ‘manners’ and stuff like what cutlery to use used to be really important: it was to prevent people from pretending they were from a class that they weren’t.
