Same thing where I was from in TX. The first time I went to California I was totally bug-eyed at see hard liquor on convenience store shelves.

I don’t drink so I haven’t the slightest idea what the laws are in NJ/NY, but I don’t recall ever seeing hard liquor in grocery or convenience stores up here. I doubt they have any Sunday blue laws either.

I know in upstate NY you can buy things in the grocery store. Don’t remember if that was hard liquor inclusive or just beer/wine. Rules may differ in the city, of course.

NJ has just finally allowed beer/wine in grocery stores but I am not clear on the rules behind that.
