I am so sick of the tariff argument for the Civil War it’s not even funny. Trade….. tell me that people got so pissed they couldn’t import French perfume, Belgian chocolate, Swiss clocks . Malaga wine, they decided to, conveniently, coincidentally, only when Lincoln was elected not before, decided to start shooting down their fellow Americans. Tariffs and trade, funny the Articles of Secession don’t mention it. Maybe they weren’t so pissed about tariffs on French perfume after all.
