OK, things just got weirder in Copenhagen.

The president of this meeting, Connie Heidegar of Denmark, just resigned (this was planned, I think.) She is the Environment Minister for Denmark. Her replacement is the Prime Minister of Denmark.

Not surprising, but what it means is that as of now they’ve kicked it upstairs, so to speak. The “national statements” are about to begin. What this means is that essential time is up for the policy wonks to debate, and now the real fun begins.

Apparently President Obama is deploying his secret weapon (H. Clinton), who will arrive tomorrow.

I’m beginning to wonder if Obama should show up on Friday. Not from a Palin-esque desire to see this effort fail, but I’m wondering if him showing up will put too much pressure on the process. The Chinese, EU, and American positions are still too far apart.
