Competition, in theory, should bring the creme to the top. What we have is the mediocre, because that is what sells to the majority of buyers.

What we do have is a vast variety that we didn’t have before. We have citizen fact checkers and open debate.

Network News is just a headline reading service, to allow us to do our own research into those topics we want to know more about.

Honestly, the issue really is one of apathy on the part of Americans. The 24/7 media is just giving them what they want. Pop culture, infotainment, a quickie for those who can handle a paragraph or two. Analysis is boring. Making sense of analysis is hard, as is forming your own opinions. It’s easier to take the opinion of someone you like and make it your own.
