Charles posted a definition of perjury in #94. There is more to perjury than just lying. For example, you could say you were home in bed when the bank was robbed and the jury doesn’t believe you. You probably won’t get charged with perjury, or else every convicted felon who plead not guilty committed perjury.
Take a witness who recants her/his testimony. There is a lie somewhere. Maybe they were intimidated or bought off, or something else. Perjury is a very difficult case to make.
