Remember that in our New Media Reality, having a long record of public service is a handicap, as it allows critics on both sides to pick out individual aspects to attack, whereas being an “outsider” with no record of public service (and unreleased tax records) is seen as a selling point.

Yup, we’re left with comedians (such as the Samantha Bee clip above and Trevor Noah and John Oliver) having to tell us what the news is.

To be fair, comedians have always weighed in on political topics (such as “Laugh-In”) but now that seems to be the only source for news.
