The IRS decided I worked a full year for an employer I never did. And owed all the taxes on the $50,000 I never earned.
Took me months, and money out of my pocket to prove to their satisfaction I had not in fact worked for the company.
Ooh, that’s rough. Someone can file a W-2 or a 1099 in your name and SS #, and you’re in for the battle of you life. Again, you need to petition the Tax Court (if you can’t get the asshole to amend the tax reporting form).
