I haven’t done a lot of commenting on the meat of what happened politically, today, but I closely watched the conversation.

My takes:

What Sam Bee called Ivanka can’t be viewed through the lens of what other countries think of the word. Here in the US, it is viewed as the female equivalent of calling a black person a n******. A c*** in the US is a road whore, a scag, a crack addict giving $5 blow jobs for drugs, or, in TrumpWorld, Hillary Clinton.

Let that sink in for a minute.

The fact that Ivanka faffs about about family and blah blah blah, while not busting her dad’s chops for what he is doing to families seeking asylum in this country is a really, really valid criticism. It exposes her as suffering from extraordinary white privilege bias, at best, or just depraved indifference at worst. She deserves to be pilloried.

But *that* word should never have been uttered, and I am not talking about “feckless”. That’s a good word, because it’s accurate.

I don’t care if it’s a man or a woman who describes another woman using it. I don’t care if it’s a satirical comedy show. That word is a trigger in this country. You use it to describe a road whore, a scag, a crack addict giving $5 blow jobs for drugs, or, in TrumpWorld, Hillary Clinton.

It was a major blunder by Bee and her staff. You just cannot, cannot, use that word to cavalierly describe the daughter of a sitting President, no matter how shallow that daughter is, or how vile the President is. It was air-dropping machine gun ammo into the enemy lines. Free Gift!

It destroyed the very valid point that Bee was trying to highlight, that Drumpf’s policies toward asylum seekers was ripping families asunder was causing horrific pain and inhuman suffering to people who just didn’t want to watch their children get slaughtered.

The chance that there will be a discussion on the White House support for this horrible piece of public policy is now gone. And that is a fucking tragedy, and was entirely preventable.
