Those are very misleading numbers. A good portion of those phones were part of a buy one get one free deal that’s been going on for a long time.

Once could say that of all phones sold, RIM had to give away half of them. That’s a bit of a stretch, but they did give away a ton of phones as part of a package deal.

No such deals exists for the iPhone like the 2 for 1 deal being offered on blackberry’s.

RIM maybe given the phones away, but they’re buying chips! Lots of them.
