There’s a lot of anarchist douchebags around the Portland area, right? Hopefully OWS leadership can marginalize them. The anti-war folks around there didn’t, and it really hurt their cause and image.

The core problem facing OWS is that they have very little means to neutralize or marginalize anyone, and an ideological slant that makes doing so both difficult and not necessarily desireable.

In other words, “What OWS leadership?”

On the news the other night, there was a pleasant middle-aged guy who was marching with Occupy Oakland, talking about how upset he was when the fringies started breaking windows—and then how his faith in people was restored when other Occupistas yelled at them, and started cleaning up.

This is great, but at the same time, how effective is it to have a big march, in which you know some people will cause damage to property, and the rest of you will try to make amends by sweeping up the glass?
