Given the way the rabid right wing has been discussing this trial, they expected him to fight that he was “just following proper procedure,” and they aimed to make the argument that convicting him would have a deleterious effect on the ability of police to do their dangerous job.

I had always thought of Barr as a supremely corrupt GOP apparatchik rather than a true believer in GOP nonsense. Perhaps that is mistaken.
