Can anyone who thinks it was intentional please describe a motive that makes any sense? First of all very few people would recognize the image for what it is, so I suppose you start off by only sending whatever message you think they were dog whistling to the select few who recognize the architecture in that photo. But once it was discovered and the inevitable outrage was broadcast to the media what was the potential upside?

Our political discourse associates “strong on terror” with the republicans — it’s always treated as a weakness for democratic candidates. Invoking 9/11 and the fear of terror attacks only would strengthen her opponent who has made his anti-terror “toughness” a central part of his campaign (see: having Rudy really hammer away at this when he was stumping for Brown the other day).
