No, the immigration system won’t be fixed anytime soon. Things are far too polarized for that to happen.

Which is also why I don’t want Arab immigration right now. I want the memory of Bush the Younger to recede a bit more and give the GOP time to get a bit more sane.

I wish you could see how pathological this kind of thing sounds from the outside. You admit that your party is something less than sane, yet you still remain with them. Not only that, but you actually advocate acquiescing to their bigotry.

If you want to limit things to post WWII then try explaining why Strom Thurmond left the Democrats and joined the GOP after the failure of his epic filibuster in 1964? You’ve already identified the reason, your party isn’t sane. It wasn’t the “memory of Bush the Younger” that caused this, it’s been an endemic trait, a defining characteristic for the better part of the last half century.
