Their grandchildren are the assimilated ones, because usually any fluency in the immigrants’ mother tongue is lost by the second generation. Exceptions would be people who stay within their own ethnic enclaves, but even then the second gen is bilingual and code switches to suit the occasion.
Yeah my mom has no traces of being a grandchild of immigrants. Her parents still used some of the old words. I know dupa because of it haha.
