Yes it was. Even more disturbing are the possible reasons for the other candidates to not show up. Were they afraid that going to an NAACP gathering might have lowered their own desirability in the eyes of potential Republican voters? That’s just speculation on my part, but any candidate obviously must try to make the most of any opportunity for publicity, and to turn down the NAACP invite means turning down publicity.

To continue my role as a cynic I think you might be looking for too many layers. Gore won 90% of the black vote (Bush 9), Kerry 88 (Bush 11), Obama 96 (McCain - 94 votes total). You might not be surprised to learn none of the dems in those elections spoke in front of the NRA convention.
