I think part of it (and also my dislike for Notre Dame) is how they sucked away local talent into their program. One reason some of the regional schools remained 2nd-rate in terms of athletics. Though at this point basketball has almost reached the level of corruption enjoyed by college football. Essentially acting as a “free” minor league for the professional level.

A redeeming feature is that they have an actual championship tournament that is fun to watch as compared to the travesty that is the bowl and BCS system. (Also doesn’t help that my interactions with the college football players at university were almost universally negative while the college basketball players I met were almost universally fairly cool and not stuck-up.)

Yeah totally feel ya about college basketball. Reminds me, when I was a reporter at Mason’s newspaper, one of my great thrills was being able to interview the last guy who came in after the school made the Final Four. And the best roommate I ever had been a freshman that year so he had some great stories about that season.
