re: #142 Ian G.

My now-husband and I have been doing the big lodges in the Western national parks for a while now. We didn’t get to sit on the porch at Crater Lake because there was still a good 2 feet of snow on it, but we did enjoy a nice drink in their lobby area.

By far the current favorites are Old Faithful Inn (he proposed at the geyser, so it gets an extra boost for that, but it’s amazing all on its own) and Timberline Lodge, where you can sit at the bar in front of those huge glass windows and nurse a tasty drink in the warmth while you watch idiots strap boards to their feet and slide downhill.*

* I don’t ski since the incident with the backboard when I was 14, coupled by an increasing fear of heights that can be triggered immensely standing at the edge of a slope. No actual offense intended to those who enjoy it.
