Well, look whoā€™s resurfaced.

Attorney who filed lawsuit over Omaha bar ownerā€™s suicide resurfaces (Omaha World-Herald)

The bar owner in question was the man who killed African-American man James Scurlock outside his bar, claiming he ā€œfeared for his life.ā€ After the district attorney declined to investigate, statewide protests erupted, resulting in a grand jury being convened.

The grand jury handed down a murder indictment against the bar owner, who then fled to Oregon to evade arrest. He killed himself there.

The attorney who filed a wrongful-death lawsuit over Omaha bar owner Jake Gardnerā€™s suicide resurfaced Wednesday after a mysterious two-week absence from court proceedings.

John Pierce, a Los Angeles attorney who gained celebrity by briefly representing gunman Kyle Rittenhouse and partnering with one of Donald Trumpā€™s lawyers, had not shown up for several hearings on behalf of those accused in the Jan. 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol building.

Wednesday, he resumed his representation of his clients after what he said was a 12-day hospital stay. In a statement, he didnā€™t give a reason for his hospitalization, although his associate had told the court he was battling COVID-19.

ā€œI am pleased to report that on Sunday, September 5, 2021, I was released from an LA-area hospital following a 12-day stay,ā€ Pierce wrote to the court. ā€œI was not ā€˜missingā€™ or anything of the sort.ā€

His law firm gave all sorts of ridiculous reasons for his disappearance, none of them admitting ā€œhospitalised with Covid-19.ā€
