Gah…as many of you know I’ve been obsessed with my solar system since I got it installed. I monitor my usage, how much energy gets generated, what I take from the grid. I’ve been on self-supply for a few weeks, using the battery backup at night to power the house then letting the sun recharge it during the day.

Well, with the storm coming (it’s here now) I wanted to have a full charge, so I switched back to ‘Battery backup’ which should fill the battery from the sun and/or grid to 100%…except I’ve been sitting at 40% for two days. Tried switching it back and forth, changing the reserve minimum to a higher number…nothing. So far we haven’t lost power, and if we do, I’ll have about 40% to work with which is a little less than I use in a given night.

So…do I try turning the system off and on? There’s a big red switch for that. Or just keep my fingers crossed until morning and call the solar people and ask them? I wonder if a breaker connected to the system might have gotten flipped but I have no interest in going out in the wind and rain and looking at the breaker box (though it’s on the leeward corner of the house).
