The entire “sci-fi” genre of TV shows died I’ve concluded because of grossly oversimplified story lines. That’s why SyFy continues to spread out into other areas of entertainment (e.g., WWE Smackdown).

Sad really. I’d say that TV genre peaked sometime between B5 and the 5th season of Stargate. It’s been a rapid downhill since then.

And it’s not just SyFy as a network. Other networks likewise are dishing out crap. E.g. the new Canadian version of “Primeval”.

Its a question of return on investment. The various studios realize they can spend a minimal amount on production and still make a decent profit turn out of absolute dreck as long as the have Buff Hardcheese as the hero, Slinky McHugetits as the damsel in distress and follow the same basic storyline as every other show.

“Have we done a body swap episode?”
“Yes.”
“Frozen time?”
“Yes.”
“… Amnesia?”
“No.”
“I’VE GOT THE PLOT FOR THE NEXT EPISODE!”
