I don’t know enough about her or the controversy surrounding her to have an opinion on this, though someone in that Twitter thread pointed out the clickbait headline the LA Times put on Twitter is exactly the opposite of what the headline reads on their Website.

There are a ton of people on that thread making the “abused become abusers” argument (which is a false argument), because it is a “just so” common-sense story. (In a sense it is like a religious story, the sins of the parent are repeated in the children.) Of course, “just so” claims are made because they justify dismissing an argument: “See, she abused someone, therefore that proves victims will become abusers.”

Aside from the incredible stigma of even telling a story of child or adult sexual assault, such hot takes ensure that others won’t. Damn, if I had such a story to tell, I sure wouldn’t tell anyone at all with the way society treats people who do come out with their stories.
