Well, I’d somewhat disagree, historically. There is an enormous historical tradition of Christians being conquerers, warriors, and violent persecutors of heretics. The secular revolution of the Enlightenment is what sapped that from Christianity. Why the Enlightenment didn’t penetrate the Middle East is a complex story, but I don’t feel it’s one that can be blamed largely on Islam’s resitance; the political power structures were what resisted.

In modern macho, It’s nice to see most ordinary Christians repelled by that asshole Fischer’s comments about the Medal of Honor. It’s disappointing to see him not more widely repudiated.

My favorite response to Fischer on his site began with “To call you what you deserve would require the use of profanity.”
