As much as we’d wish it would be they really are a hair’s breadth away from going there. just run off the common factors between each

1) Fanatical religious beliefs…check
2) Distrust of elected gov’t…check
3) Belief in some form of theocracy…check
4) Belief that violence in the name of their cause is legit…check

and the list goes on. The only real differences are the name of the deity, the color of their skin (and even that is not always the case) and the language they speak.

Actually, the only difference I see is point #4 above —- deity name, skin color and language being obviously irrelevant.

For point #4 above, the American Taliban is reasonably close to seizing power peacefully in the US via control of the GOP. That has relegated support of violent terrorism to the fringes of that movement, for now.

If/when it becomes clear that the GOP/Taliban party has no hope as a national party, then I expect to see domestic terrorism by the US far right to sharply increase.
