Greets and saluts from the sultry and humid NYC metro area. I’m watching Twitter this morning with the usual mix of people calling on Trump to apologize, all while knowing that Trump never ever apologizes. He doubles down.

Some reporters and outlets are claiming that this could be construed as a joke, except that it wasn’t and the context shows it wasn’t a joke. Moreover, he’s enabled his surrogates to say so much worse. For instance:

There’s NH Rep. Al Baldasaro, who said Clinton “should be put in the firing line and shot for treason,” also indulged in anti-Muslim rhetoric to defend Trump.

There’s Carl Paladino’s call to lynch Loretta Lynch (which he claimed was a misspeak).

No, it was no mistake. It’s a wolf whistle for his deranged supporters to take matters into their own hands down the road.
