In the Bible (AFAIK) the rule is in the sense of “do not murder”. I.e. do not extrajudicially execute anyone, not the Tolstovian do-not-kill. Given the divine laws like “thou shalt not suffer a witch to live” etc. the interpretative wiggle room is almost as great as with the somewhat more nebulous “thou shalt love…”.

We’ve had 3000 years. Maybe it’s time for an upgrade.
