re: #140 Interesting Times
Note the tweeter isnât talking about trumpchumps - heâs talking about low-info, apathetic voters (the vanishingly few âswing votersâ left). These are the voters whose opinions and votes can change on a dime if you appeal to their frustrations correctly (as Obama did in 2008)
And his point is valid - âNot trumpâ isnât good enough. A low-info, apathetic voter will reply, âYeah, heâs an asshole, but things arenât that bad so why bother to vote?â This is where you have to go beyond ânot trumpâ and give that person something to vote FOR.
The strategy that works is the one that worked in Alabama:
Pour everything youâve got into getting PoCs to the polls. Black women, especially, but depending on the state, Hispanics, Asians, what have you.
They get it. They know what two more years of Republicans in Congress and four more years of Trump in the WH will mean. And they donât have the luxury of taking a privileged âboth parties are the same, so why botherâ approach.
Give them policies that will benefit them, as the Democratic platform generally does, and candidates who donât overlook them (dammit, Bernie), and if they turn out in sufficient numbers, they - and all of us, together - win.
