Back in TX it wasn’t unusual to have people who’d never seen hijab before mistake me for a nun, especially since I usually wear a black scarf (because I smoke and am accident prone with my coffee—a lighter color would be disastrous).
Well, CL, growing up in the heart of Catholic Louisiana, what else was I to think? LOL. It’s all I knew. Seriously, this was in the town where I grew up in central La. and I’d never seen a Muslim before. This is many years ago, I was still actually young.
