Yep. I think my mother falls into that category. I used to say she was being prejudiced, but I’m not so sure anymore.
What I do know, is that she’s very bitter.

When I was trying to scrounge up a prom date (I wasn’t the kind of girl who got asked), one of the guys I asked was the only black guy in my class (out of 400 students)… he said sorry, I’d like to, but my mother won’t let me date white girls.

First I thought he was letting me down gently, trying to avoid saying he didn’t want to go out with me. Then I thought maybe his mom was a bigot. It took me ten years to realize that his mom was probably just afraid for him. (maybe for good reason; he joined the marines straight out of high school, died during basic training under very suspicious circumstances.)
