Libertarianism** is a good foundation to go right into โ€œFuck you, I have mine. And keep your hands off it!โ€ mode. It feeds directly into all sorts of personal space things like privacy, a sense of having earned things, distrust of government/taxes, and even a general paranoia about the โ€œotherโ€ coming to get your cookie.

If we were all hatched out as fully formed adults, ready to be fitted with a basic education chip and sent out to realize our potential as free individuals in a competitive marketplace, then I could begin to understand Libertarianism or Ayn Randism.

But we are born dependent, and spend our first years and often many of our last years dependent on others. We are not born as isolated individuals, but as a part of a family, which is usually part of some larger social/ethnic group.

I want a society that takes these notions into consideration and is not just based on some abstract concept of individual freedom vs government control.
