However, it is Iran that has meddled in other countries’ politics around the world through bombings, assassinations, and now the threat of nuclear annihilation. The United States of America, founded on the concepts of liberty, freedom, and the pursuit of individual happiness, stood with Solidarity against communist Poland, and we demanded that the Soviet Union tear down the Berlin Wall. If our symbolic stand with Iran’s youth, struggling to shake off the chains of tyranny is meddling, then we make no apologies for it, and indeed, I say to the people of Iran, when you join the free and peace-loving peoples of the world, we will welcome you back as friends.”
