The whole notion of an objective, neutral, or unbiased press is a fiction started by the Associated Press and other wire services in the 19th century.
It would have been an alien concept to the Founding Fathers.

Before the wire services (and for years afterward), almost every newspaper proudly proclaimed its political allegiance on the editorial page, the front page, and often from the masthead. AP, though, fed news to a large number of outlets with varying and conflicting orientations. It therefore had to proclaim the neutrality of its stories to be salable. As time went on, the wire service policy became the industry norm, just as the AP style manual became the standard for reporters.
