Just heard a guy walking past my office window talking on his phone, and I swear every third word he said was “like.”

Where did, like, this verbal, like, thing come from? Does anybody, like, know?

I’ve got a boss that does it. It’s his version of “uh”, a mental pause to organize his thoughts.
