I think there’s growing evidence that the combination of COVID and the BLM movement and the sheer horror that is the Trump era has awakened a new political force that’s not going away. We saw the first inklings of that with how well things went in the 2018 midterms. If we find a way to hang on to that momentum and keep those voters engaged with Democrats on all levels going into local elections in 2021, the 2022 midterms and beyond, it could seriously reshape a lot of the ways in which Republicans have taken electoral dominance for granted, right at the moment when their party has so little to offer voters aside from “Trump good,” which is going to be a weak-ass argument if he gets an electoral ass-whupping come November.

When change comes fast, it’s an amazing thing. I’m going to hold on to optimism that we’re on the verge of that.
