The usual defense is a passage which describes a man being killed by God over the practice of onanism, that is, employing the “pull-out method” to prevent conception. What ultra-conservative Christian scholars don’t tell you about this incident is that the crime the man was guilty of was of refusing to carry on his brother’s family line by siring an heir on the brother’s widow, NOT the act of preventing conception.

Which I find morally reprehensible. Unless of course it was something dependent of a primitive band or tribe of people in a small inhospitable environment. But that in fact was the basis of some of these writings — from days gone by and primitive environments. Now, it’s the 21st century.
