parties are private organizations, they can do what they want to do. The GOP can still deny Trump the nomination, they have just come to the conclusion that the damage would be even greater from that than from nominating him…

Sure, I just find it odd that one person—even the nominee—can just appoint someone else to take over the ticket. Doesn’t really sound participatory.
