I find most places are perfectly happy to deal with credit cards instead of debit cards and we treat them as the same thing in our house. I just prefer the extra layer of buffer between my bank account and the merchant, because fraudulent charges are a thing that happens and I would prefer to catch them before the money is withdrawn from my account.
I realize that’s not feasible for everyone for a variety of reasons, but that’s why I don’t use debit cards.
I pay everything by credit card - much easier to get refunded than a debit amount if a purchase goes wrong. I only use a debit card for withdrawing cash which I use for purchases under $10. Credit card also provides a good statement of expenditure each month.
Some merchants (not many) charge a fee for using credit - I call it a fee for security of my funds.
