The only difference is that Meshaal is back in Gaza for the first time in decades. That’s apparently newsworthy, even though he’s had no problem sending thousands of his Hamas minions to their deaths by calling for jihad against Israel from the relative safety of Damascus over the past two decades.

Now, Damascus isn’t all that safe (nor is Syria at large with the civil war raging there), so Gaza is perceived as a safer haven than Syria.

It’s real easy to call for jihad from afar. We’ll see just what’s changed in coming weeks and months when he’s in the thick of it in Gaza.
